Classes at Nritya Laya Darpan
Classes at Nritya Laya Darpan
In person classes are conducted at our dance studio in Dublin, CA. Kids aged 5 & above are eligible for enrolment. We accept students in the beginner, intermediate & advanced levels, after a thorough assessment of the skill level of the interested candidate. The primary teacher is Smt. Sudha Krishnan but we also have advanced level students who are trained to be a Teacher’s Assistant when needed. Other teachers at the school include senior students - Swara Krishnan & Raksha Parakulam who also follow the footsteps and stand for the school's principles. Go to the page Teachers at NLD to read more about our teachers and their accomplishments as upcoming artists and dancers in the field professionally. We also have adult-student batches. Please email us at nrityalayadarpan1@gmail.com and we will get back to you with further information.
Classes are divided up into Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced categories. Current enrolled students are all assigned to a classroom internal to school. Access to classroom and content is only granted by the teacher for the specific batch.
At this point, all our batches are full and we are not accepting any new students. However, if you know of anyone who is very interested to join NLD for learning this art form, kindly have them submit this form and we will reach out when an opening is likely - https://forms.gle/XaVJwvWBP3NdtJ486
Studio Maintenance and Ethics
Go Green is a very fond initiative of mine and as our new year proceeds I wanted to increase the mindfulness towards this! I would like to emphasize a few house rules to this effect:
1. Students are encouraged to be accountable to bring their water bottles, notebooks/pens/pencils and take their belongings back after the class. Please be mindful to not leave things behind in the studio as there isn't enough space to store expensive jackets and water bottles.
2. Paper cups are available for the occasional forgotten bottle. I would like us all to be mindful of our environment and use only one cup for the duration of the class and when absolutely necessary.
3. Paper napkins are also available however, please note accidentally trying to flush the paper napkins can cause clogging of toilets and leads to heavy damage. This happened a few months ago and it wasn't a pretty scene to clean or to get repaired. PLEASE WARN YOUNGER STUDENTS APPROPRIATELY!
3. I usually try my best to come 15 minutes earlier to clean the space however I would like to request that students leave the space cleared and clean as they leave the studio. There have been days when I have had to clean a lot of food stuck on floor with snacking and water spilled from cups that has been left on the bench and dropped causing spill to remain on the floor overnight. Wooden floor damage can be pretty bad and an expensive affair. Kindly be mindful.
4. It will also be nice if girls with slightly longer hair can tie up their hair and braid it and pin it up before entering the studio, so there is less hair falling after every class.
5. Those who borrow the keys to practice at the studio, please remember to turn off the A/C or Heating, speakers, lights after use and leave the studio as clean as possible. Please check the school's google calendar published before reaching out for practice availability.
We are in this dance community together and I would like to encourage a sense of responsibility towards this space we share and learn in together. These small changes will make a large difference. Thank you!
